How to Break the

Co-Sleeping Habit

So how do you break the co-sleeping habit without feeling guilty or stressed?

Co-sleeping can be a tricky habit to break, especially for new parents. It’s a normal and natural way of bonding with your child, and it offers you both some much-needed rest and emotional support. But like any habit, it has its pros and cons – especially when it comes to sleep health and quality.

Here are some tips that can help make the transition easier for you and your baby:

Start gradually.

Begin by moving your baby’s sleeping arrangement gradually away from your bed. This could mean starting with a bassinet next to your bed or placing the crib in the same room as yours instead of in a separate bedroom at first.

Gradually transitioning will help ease both of you into the routine, allowing time to adjust while still giving baby a sense of security.

Set up positive associations with their new sleeping space.

Make their new sleeping area inviting and comfortable by filling it with familiar objects such as blankets, pillows, stuffed animals or other items that remind them of home – this will help them feel more safe in their new environment and make going to sleep easier for them as well!

Create a calming bedtime routine.

Creating a relaxed bedtime routine is important for helping babies learn how to fall asleep on their own without relying on parents or other family members for comfort during those fussy times before drifting off into dreamland.

When babies have an established nighttime routine, they will generally become more independent in falling asleep on their own – something that can be difficult when co-sleeping! Be sure to include things like bath time, reading stories together or singing lullabies; anything that helps baby relax before tucking him/her in for the night should be included in the routine!

Create good sleep habits around napping time as well!

Though co-sleeping makes naps easier sometimes since parents are already close by if needed, teaching babies good sleep habits during nap time can help them eventually learn how to fall asleep on their own during nighttime hours too!

Naps should happen in their own space so they know what it’s like to get comfortable without mommy or daddy nearby – use those same calming routines noted above during nap time as well!

Ask for help if necessary!

If all else fails, don’t be afraid to me here at Your Sleeping Baby. I have years of experience helping families with breaking through these habits – there are plenty of resources on my website, as well, devoted specifically towards helping parents break these habits successfully without too much stress on either side!

Breaking the co-sleeping habit may seem daunting at first but by establishing positive associations between baby’s new sleeping space and having patience while both of you adjust to this change together – it can be one of the most rewarding transitions made between parent & child alike!

(4-15 months)

Whether you have a baby that is already on the path to healthy sleep or you have not yet begun to implement sleep fundamentals, this is a GREAT age to start. Your baby is now developmentally capable of sleeping in long stretches and taking in his calories during the day. This program is for you if you have a baby that has not yet learned how to sleep independently and needs some consistency and structure in his day and his nights.

Toddlers

(15 months – 3 years)

The toddler years can be some of the absolute best and the absolute hardest. If your toddler is boundary-pushing around sleep times or has just never been a good sleeper now is the time to tackle sleep once and for all. Toddlers, more than any other age, need clear expectations surrounding sleep. They require full emotional tanks and parents who hold strong boundaries making them feel safe and secure.

“What is the value of a good night’s sleep? What is the cost of a bad night’s sleep or prolonged sleeplessness?  Many of our family and friends recalled the weeks or even years of broken sleep, lost income, and stress, stress, STRESS which resulted from a child who wouldn’t sleep through the night. No thanks. Let’s avoid that.”
